Quick Guide
  • Warrior has several distinct routes: a Basic/critical/Vulnerable loop, Whirlwind, Half Moon Slash or Earthstrike supported by shouts and control. Choose the main damage mechanic before stacking every damage talent.
  • Class skill unlocks arrive before rune equipment. AFK Meta reports slots at levels 40/45/50/55/60/65, putting two-, four- and six-piece plans at a minimum of 45/55/65.
  • The plans below specify enabling skills, present set thresholds and failure checks. They are source-based alternatives, not controlled highest-DPS or safest-Inferno results.

Four directions, four different enabling mechanics

DirectionSkill checkpointSetMain build question
Crit and Rage ShieldRage Shield, Special, level 15Strong Shield of the AtheronCan critical hits and shield support maintain the melee loop?
Whirlwind coverageWhirlwind, Strong, level 35Eye of the StormCan the channel cover packs without exhausting mana or losing useful Special casts?
Earthstrike controlEarthstrike, Special, level 30Weight of the MountainAre Basic casts and a real Stun feeding the Special/Fractured plan?
Half Moon SlashHalf Moon Slash, Strong, level 20Harvest MoonCan repeated hits maintain its momentum and mana support?

Start with the relevant attack in the correct slot. Valiant Strike, Cleave, Bloodblade and Steady Blow are Basic options; Flame Strike, Half Moon Slash, Whirlwind and Rending Onslaught occupy the Strong slot. Rage Shout and Rage Shield compete for the two Special slots with Deadly Hook, Earthstrike, Iron Thorn and Molten Might. A plan that names three simultaneous Specials must choose which two are actually equipped.

What each rune threshold adds

Set effects in the captured Warrior sheet
Set2 pieces4 pieces6 pieces
Strong Shield of the Atheron+10% Critical Hit ChanceCritical hit heals 5% maximum HPRage Shield adds 20% Critical Hit Chance and 50% Critical Hit Damage
Eye of the Storm+50% Physical DamageWhirlwind hits/spins 25% faster and lasts three seconds longerAll Specials can be cast during Whirlwind, in addition to Warcry abilities
Weight of the Mountain+100% Special Ability DamageEach Basic cast reduces Earthstrike cooldown by 0.8 secondsWhen your Stun ends, Fractured lasts eight seconds and grants +250% Critical Hit Damage from you
Harvest Moon+50% Strong Attack DamageHalf Moon hits grant up to twenty three-second momentum stacks, each +1 mana regeneration and +1% crit chanceBlades pursue enemies near the aim point for three seconds and cut every 0.5 seconds

Treat the six-piece channel exception as a threshold, not the default behavior of every Whirlwind build. Likewise, Weight of the Mountain needs a Stun you inflicted and its ending condition before the Fractured bonus described by the reference. Simply wearing an Earthstrike-themed set does not prove that a generic damage bonus is always on. Keep the triggering condition in the same comparison as the number.

Basic and shield: prioritize an actual critical loop

The Atheron route links critical chance, critical-hit healing and Rage Shield. With two pieces, the immediate set benefit is critical chance; with four, the described healing enters the plan. Six pieces add the shield-specific offensive effects. Before the slots are available, develop the Basic and shield skills as a normal ability plan rather than calling the character a complete set build.

Focused Technique is a Basic-damage capstone with a mana-generation tradeoff in the captured planner. A Basic-focused direction can use that distinction, but your Strong and Specials still need resources. If a shield or shout becomes rarely affordable after adding the talent, the tree has changed more than the displayed Basic damage. Compare the Basic output and support uptime together.

Serrated Greatsword of Agony’s reported extra critical chance is conditional on Vulnerable targets. A Valiant Strike-based plan must establish that condition rather than add the full weapon effect to every hit. Crown of the Fallen King’s Attack Speed is after a kill, while Ring of Dragonslayer requires only one living enemy. Those are different encounter states and should not be totaled as permanent buffs.

Whirlwind, Half Moon and Earthstrike need different support

For Whirlwind, the Eye set changes the channel and later its allowed Special behavior. Reaper’s Toll is a named channel improvement in the talent reference. A longer channel is useful only if it reaches enemies and the hero survives it. Do not import mana cost or per-hit output from an old weapon into a new channel comparison without checking the new item.

For Half Moon Slash, Harvest Moon’s four-piece effect supplies hit-based mana regeneration and critical chance. The named Crescent Harvest talent also relates to this attack and restores mana on its kills in the planner. Hits and kills are different triggers: a boss fight may not generate the same sustain as a pack. Count the condition the source actually describes.

For Earthstrike, Weight of the Mountain links Basic casts to Special cooldown and Stun ending to a later critical-damage condition. A suitable Basic and control source are part of that build, rather than incidental filler. The automatic slot order checks Specials before Strong and Basic, so observe whether the intended Basic casting rhythm still exists after choosing both Specials.

The values are maximum-rank descriptions, not free bonuses or a legal seventy-point allocation. Decide which exclusive capstone occupies each reached row. The tree opens by points spent, and buying the first talent in a sixty-spent row requires another point beyond those sixty. Budget refunds before replacing an established melee setup.

Thorns is an alternative damage source with a survival cost

The Warrior planner also supports a Thorns direction. Vicious Thorns is a ten-spent capstone that lets Thorns critically hit; Thorn Boost is an ordinary percentage talent, and Ironblood later adds a share of maximum HP to Thorns. Their effects identify a route to inspect rather than prove that standing in every boss attack is safe. A retaliation-based plan still needs enough defense and recovery to take the relevant hits.

The named-item reference lists Thornheart Cuirass with a large Thorns increase and a fifteen-percent maximum-HP loss, and Shell Spike Pauldron adds ten percent of Armor to Thorns. That makes HP, Armor, offensive retaliation and recovery interdependent. Compare the real survival tradeoff instead of replacing every defensive item merely because one tooltip has a large Thorns percentage.

Do not combine exclusive early capstones

Vicious Thorns, Focused Technique and Heavy Blow are ten-spent capstone alternatives in the retained planner. A written “Basic plus Thorns plus Strong” setup cannot count all three at once.

Record the complete setup

Save the main attack, four slots, rune count, key talents, weapon and current map.

Choose one family checkpoint

Compare a change to the actual enabling skill or a reached set threshold; keep recovery settings stable.

Watch the family’s bottleneck

For Basic check support mana; for Whirlwind channel survival; for Half Moon hit/kill sustain; for Earthstrike the Stun cycle.

Keep the result tied to the encounter

Record deaths, clear time and resource interruptions. A pack improvement does not establish a boss ranking.

Q: Is Thorns the same as a Basic Attack build?

No. A retaliatory Thorns direction depends on its own damage and survival rules; Basic gear and a large weapon number alone do not establish it.

Q: Can I use every Warrior capstone together?

No. The general talent reference gives one choice per capstone row. The named examples are alternatives to evaluate within the point budget.

Q: When should I change the main family?

When the new enabling ability, resource support and equipment solve a specific remaining problem. Preserve the old allocation and weapon before paying for the change.
