Quick Guide
  • A gem’s bonus changes with its socket group: Weapon, Armor (Helm, Chest Armor, Pants), or Accessory (Ring, Necklace). The same color is not the same effect everywhere.
  • AFK Meta and Wikily list sockets only on items requiring level 30 or higher: Weapon 3, Helm 1, Chest Armor 2, Pants 2, Ring 1 and Necklace 1.
  • The full table below contains the 36 source-reported gem entries. Inspect current tooltips before committing valuable gems; removal destroys the inserted gem in the reviewed references.

Choose the slot group before the gem color

The six families are Amethyst, Diamond, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire and Topaz. AFK Meta’s data dated 3 October 2026 provides six tiers for each; Wikily’s gem hub also describes 36 entries and the same three bonus groups. A weapon socket grants a damage-family percentage, armor grants an attribute or utility/survival stat, and jewelry grants damage reduction. Decide which of those jobs you need before sorting gems by tier.

AmethystArcane DamageIntelligenceArcane Damage Reduction
DiamondPhysical DamageCooldown ReductionPhysical Damage Reduction
EmeraldPoison DamageThornsPoison Damage Reduction
RubyFire DamageStrengthFire Damage Reduction
SapphireCold DamageBonus HealthCold Damage Reduction
TopazLightning DamageDexterityLightning Damage Reduction

A Ruby is therefore not a general Strength gem in every slot: its weapon role is Fire Damage. Likewise, a Diamond in armor addresses Cooldown Reduction rather than Physical Damage. Read the skill damage family and the item’s socket group before insertion. A color that benefits one part of a build may be weak in a different slot, and a higher tier does not change which stat the family supplies.

All 36 gem bonuses in the dated reference

Tier names make the inventory easier to read: Raw Sphere, Chipped Teardrop, Rough Square, Polished Rhombus, Flawless Hexagon and Radiant Octagon. The table keeps every tier and socket effect rather than printing only the maximum. These values are source-reported third-party game data, not our current-client measurements or a guarantee that another version uses identical numbers.

The weapon percentage sequence is 10, 15, 20, 25, 35 and 50 across tiers 1–6 for every family in this reference. The armor and jewelry sequences differ: Sapphire’s health bonus does not follow the same increments as an attribute gem, and Diamond’s jewelry reduction differs from the elemental reductions. Use the actual row instead of estimating a missing tier by adding five.

The reviewed references require item required level 30+ for sockets. Required level and item level are separate concepts in the gear data, so inspect the actual tooltip rather than reading a hero level or a region number as socket permission. An item with one empty socket is not proof that every other item in the slot has already reached its maximum. Adding a socket is a Gem Specialist service; it is not the same operation as inserting a gem into an existing hole.

Wikily gives 100 Earth Essence plus 400 gold per item level for each added socket and a confirmation that doing so makes the item untradable forever. AFK Meta repeats the formula but explicitly labels its cost as to be confirmed in play. Keep that qualification visible: compare the actual service bill before spending, particularly on an item you intended to trade. The separate crafting/removal guide calculates costs and inventory requirements.

Match a socket plan to the failure you are fixing

Editorial decision guide using the source bonus roles
Observed needGem/slot lead to compareWhy it fits the role
Arcane attacks are the main damageAmethyst in a WeaponWeapon effect is Arcane Damage
A physical setup needs shorter cooldownsDiamond in ArmorArmor effect is Cooldown Reduction
A hero needs more health to survive the loopSapphire in ArmorArmor effect is Bonus Health
Incoming Poison damage is the specific problemEmerald in jewelryAccessory effect is Poison Damage Reduction
Primary Dexterity is useful to the buildTopaz in ArmorArmor effect is Dexterity
Fire skills dominate the damage planRuby in a WeaponWeapon effect is Fire Damage

These are leads for comparison, not an optimized best-in-slot list. A damage-family gem cannot be called best without knowing which attacks deal that family and how much of the loop they contribute. A defensive accessory may improve total farming time by preventing deaths even if its tooltip does not raise Attack. Check full-loop clear time and survival after the change, keeping other gear and the chosen stage steady enough to interpret the result.

The Wikily stats reference says Strength is primary for Warrior, Dexterity for Hunter and Monk, and Intelligence for Sorcerer; it also describes secondary defenses from attributes. That supports checking the hero’s actual attribute role rather than treating a primary-stat gem as equally offensive for all four classes. The same reference caps Cooldown Reduction at 85%, so more nominal reduction is not automatically more effective once the current displayed stat reaches its cap.

Plan insertion before an irreversible replacement

Inspect the candidate item

Confirm required level, existing sockets, class compatibility and whether this is gear you expect to retain.

Read the current gem row

Compare the weapon/armor/accessory value for the held tier. Do not use the weapon value for a ring.

Reserve the needed stock

Keep gems for the actual plan rather than merging or selling them solely because they share a color.

Check the service consequences

Adding a socket has a listed material/gold bill and trade consequence; removing an inserted gem destroys it in the reference.

Insert and compare the actual result

Read the item and character stats, then observe a relevant fight. Retain the old setup’s measurements if deciding between offense and survival.

If the slot will likely be replaced soon, postponing a costly socket or top-tier insertion can preserve resources for a lasting item. That is a planning tradeoff rather than a required game rule. If an existing socket lets a low-cost gem solve a present survival wall, the immediate useful result can outweigh waiting for an ideal future item.

Gem and socket questions

Q: Does a gem always give its weapon effect?

No. Each family has separate Weapon, Armor and Accessory effects. Read the column matching the item.

Q: Can I socket Boots or Gloves?

The reviewed slot tables give neither sockets. Weapon, Helm, Chest Armor, Pants, Ring and Necklace are the listed socket slots.

Q: Can I recover a gem after removing it?

Wikily and AFK Meta say removal destroys the gem. Do not plan a top-tier gem as freely transferable.

Q: Are the socket costs gameplay verified?

No. Wikily lists the formula and AFK Meta labels it to be confirmed in play. Read the current Gem Specialist bill.

Q: Is a tier 6 gem guaranteed to help more than another family’s tier 4?

Tier only ranks a family’s magnitude. The affected stat must be relevant to the build and actual bottleneck.

Q: Which guide covers upgrading the gem itself?

Gem Crafting and Removal covers the ten-to-one recipes, tier gold costs, stock planning and destructive removal.

For recipes and replacement costs, continue with Gem Crafting and Removal.
