Quick Guide
  • Choose a Monk anchor first: Furious Fist with Hundred Hands, Sacred Orbs with Wheel of Nine Heavens, or Piercing Lunge with Serpent’s Tongue. Their Basic, Special and Strong bonuses are not interchangeable.
  • Equip toward the threshold you can actually reach. Two pieces provide an early bonus; the four- and six-piece rows solve different problems.
  • The h/i announcements change Chain Force, Mirror Steps and several Monk coefficients. These are conditional source-based build plans, not a tested strongest or best-in-slot ranking.

The three build directions and their prerequisites

Hundred HandsFurious Fist, Basic, level 15+100% Basic Attack damageEach Furious Fist stack adds 3% Physical damage, up to 60% at 20 stacks25% chance for free Golden Palms with no knockback

Serpent’s TonguePiercing Lunge, Strong, level 20+50% Strong Attack damageHalf Lunge mana costLunge inflicts Vulnerable and subtracts one second from a random Special cooldown

The two references agree on these set effects, but separate publishers do not establish that their data was independently measured. Use the values to plan a loadout and verify the displayed threshold in your client. A four-piece Hundred Hands character cannot include the free Golden Palms proc in its damage plan, and a two-piece Serpent character does not yet have the half-cost Lunge.

Rune availability comes later than the anchor skills: AFK Meta reports six slots opening at hero levels 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 and 65. Under those rules, two, four and six pieces need at least levels 45, 55 and 65 respectively. A level-15 Furious Fist character can begin the attack plan, but cannot be described as already running a Hundred Hands set.

Hundred Hands: build around repeated Furious Fist

The main attack is Furious Fist in the Basic slot. The first practical checkpoint is its level-15 unlock; before that, a Basic-focused character can use an available Basic attack without pretending the named stacking loop already exists. At four pieces, the set converts each Furious Fist stack into additional Physical damage. At six, the free Golden Palms trigger adds a generated attack, with no knockback according to the set description.

A source-based Hundred Hands equipment plan
Property or supportWhy it fitsWhat to check before prioritizing it
Basic Attack Damage / Physical DamageThe set explicitly amplifies Basic casts and Physical damage from the stacking anchorWhether the compared affix is unconditional or needs a particular enemy state
Attack SpeedMore opportunities to cast the Basic attack are relevant to a repeated-cast planActual cast rhythm: global cooldown and stand-still effects can intervene
Life on Hit and usable recoverySupport sustained contact while building the chosen loopWhether hits and recovery sustain the whole node, not one brief fight
Two useful SpecialsSupport the same attack loop without adding unrelated bonusesSlot priority, mana and target conditions

AFK Meta lists Hundred Hands runes with Basic damage, Dexterity, Attack Speed, Life on Hit and Max Health properties. Those are equipment directions, not a fixed ordering for every roll. A missing defensive property may be more valuable than another offensive percentage if deaths repeatedly reset the loop. Keep the existing weapon while changing the set so you can identify what the threshold itself improved.

The regular Golden Palms ability unlocks at level 50. The set’s generated Golden Palms effect is a separate mechanic from selecting Golden Palms as your Strong Attack. Do not assume an early character has manually unlocked that Strong attack just because the six-piece text names it. The captured set text is not an installed-client test of every early proc interaction.

Wheel of Nine Heavens: support the Special loop

Sacred Orbs is the level-10 Special anchor. Its two-piece set bonus is Special Ability damage, which is a different property from Basic or Strong damage. Four pieces add an orb; six change what happens when an orb’s duration ends. The expiration projectile and area burst are later effects rather than a permanent increase to every Basic hit.

Plan a Basic and Strong attack that remain usable while the Orbs and a second Special follow their cooldowns. AFK Meta’s Wheel entries include Lightning damage and cooldown reduction. Those properties suggest a direction to inspect, but the actual improvement depends on the ability’s timers and the rest of the loadout. A faster Basic weapon is not, by itself, proof of more Sacred Orbs casts.

A build that looks strong against closely grouped enemies may behave differently against a mobile target. Observe whether the orbs reach enemies and whether their expiration burst occurs during the useful part of a fight. The i announcement increases orb radius by about ten percent, so an older guide’s contact observations should not be treated as a current measurement.

Serpent’s Tongue: solve the Lunge resource requirement

Piercing Lunge is the level-20 Strong anchor. Two pieces give a Strong damage bonus. At four pieces, the set halves this ability’s mana cost; it does not halve every Special cost. At six, Lunge supplies Vulnerable and reduces a random Special’s remaining cooldown by one second. The choice of two Specials therefore matters even though the set does not name a fixed pair.

Look for Strong Attack Damage and support for the actual Physical/Vulnerable condition, then watch whether mana still interrupts the repeated Lunge. A six-piece bonus cannot make an unaffordable ability cast. Official i adds a red tint and red mana-cost tooltip for unaffordable abilities, providing a concrete visual check when a theoretically supported skill stops firing.

Official h changes Lunge from a narrow cone to hits along the lunge path. That is a geometry correction, not a global damage ranking. If Lunge is reaching several enemies but the Special loop still fails, inspect the Special slots and their own target/cooldown requirements. Avoid adding the cooldown subtraction twice in a written plan merely because two Specials are slotted.

Talents and gear can change the same plan

The h announcement reworks Chain Force: every seven of the hero’s own Basic casts apply Vulnerable for three seconds to directly hit enemies. Repeated casts and minion or summon attacks do not advance the counter, and death or an area change resets it. A companion therefore cannot be assumed to charge Chain Force for you. Mirror Steps becomes a 60% Physical damage bonus for four seconds after a dodge; that is a temporary condition, not flat permanent sheet damage.

A talent guide calling capstones “level 10, 30 and 60” must still fit the spent-point gates and available budget. Reaching sixty spent opens the last capstone row but leaves no point to purchase its choice if your entire budget is sixty. Check the allocation rather than copying a route whose listed total or gate arithmetic does not fit.

A specific sustain tradeoff

Vessel of the Endless Stream replaces Spirit Stream healing with once-per-second Lightning damage pulses, reported as 160% weapon damage. If Spirit Stream was your recovery plan, equipping this chest changes that plan and requires another way to survive. A damage conversion is not an extra heal plus damage.

Chi Expenditure60 / 1After casting a Strong Attack, spend all remaining Mana. Each extra Mana spent increases that attack’s direct damage by 1%.A Strong burst alternative that spends remaining mana.

These are alternatives to compare, not one complete allocation. Mirror Steps and Chain Force occupy the ten-spent capstone tier, so their effects cannot simply be added as simultaneous choices. Formless, Iron Constitution and Chi Expenditure are alternatives in the sixty-spent tier. A final-row choice needs a point beyond the sixty spent to open that row. The reported Formless conversion is 200% of Dodge Chance: a hypothetical 20% Dodge would add 40 percentage points of critical damage under that description, not make every attack a guaranteed dodge.

Save the baseline

Record anchor, four slotted abilities, rune count, weapon, relevant talents and the current farming node.

Change one family checkpoint

Use a real two-, four- or six-piece threshold; write the new effect you are testing.

Watch the bottleneck

For Hundred Hands watch Basic rhythm; for Orbs watch contact and cooldown; for Lunge watch mana and Strong casting.

Compare complete runs

Record clear time, deaths and consumable use under the same settings. A large single hit does not establish sustainable farming.

Keep or revert

Retain the threshold if it solves the chosen problem. Keep a failed setup’s observations so the next upgrade addresses the remaining shortage.

Q: Can I mix rune sets?

Judge mixed pieces by their active thresholds and individual properties. Do not count the six-piece effects of incomplete sets.

Q: Is Hundred Hands automatically the best Monk set?

The sources give a coherent Basic build direction; they do not provide a controlled comparison against equal-quality Orbs or Lunge gear.

Q: Can an old full legendary list be copied safely?

Check every class compatibility line, conditional effect and current patch rule. An item recommended by a build author can still be incompatible or based on older mechanics.
