Quick Guide
  • A Rein unlocks a minion when used; Wikily says using a tradable Rein consumes it and asks for confirmation. Decide between an unlock and retaining the item before confirming.
  • Official 1.0.0i makes Legendary Reins always picked up regardless of carriage filters. The older duplicate-filter advice cannot override that exception.
  • Compare the companion’s ability and passive with its carriage capacity. Bigger hauling room helps only when the different combat effect still supports a sustainable run.

Keep the consumable item separate from the unlocked companion

A dropped Rein, an unlocked minion and an active companion are different states. Wikily’s Legendary Reins page says using a Rein unlocks the minion and consumes the tradable item after confirmation. The Barrens Crocodile entry explicitly calls its unlock permanent. Finding or owning the item therefore does not by itself establish that the roster entry has been unlocked, and using it can remove an object you intended to retain for trade. Read the actual item and confirmation before choosing.

First unlocks deserve a separate retention decision from duplicates. A first useful companion can change survival, damage or hauling capacity; a duplicate may be stock for a later sale only where that specific Rein is tradable. A green or blue Rein is not automatically eligible for the Steam Market. The Barrens Crocodile entry, for example, lists its Rein as not tradable and a 38-gold sale value. That example prevents extending Legendary-market assumptions to every minion drop.

Three Rein decisions
StateQuestion to answerConservative action
Unowned companionDoes its effect or capacity help the intended loop?Retain until you decide whether to consume for unlock
Already unlocked companionIs this specific item tradable or only NPC sale stock?Read the item property before disposal
Valuable tradable first unlockDo you want the companion or the retained trade item?Review the consumption confirmation deliberately

Apply the patch-i rule before older duplicate-filter advice

ApolloTrail’s through-h guide describes a Rein filter that skips minions already unlocked and advises leaving it off to collect duplicate Reins for sale. Wikily’s carriage page says the filter is on by default and only collects Reins not unlocked or already in bag/cart when on. Official 1.0.0i adds a clearer exception: Legendary Reins are always picked up regardless of filter settings. This article gives that named developer rule priority for its stated category while preserving the older description for understanding why guides differ.

The exception is about pickup, not automatic roster activation, guaranteed tradability or guaranteed sale value. A Legendary Rein can still be a carried consumable that you decide to use or retain later. Lower-rarity Reins remain a separate filter case in the reviewed reference, and the precise current behavior for duplicates should be inspected in your installed build. A cart filling with Legendary duplicates is not by itself proof that the Rein filter failed.

Choose a companion for the actual build and trip

AFK Meta’s minion list is dated 3 October 2026 and supplies rarity, region, hauling capacity and active/passive effects. The following examples are reference comparisons, not a tier list tested in the current client. They show why a companion should be selected for the bottleneck: sustain, a damage family, resource help or carriage room. A larger capacity can reduce loot interruptions but cannot compensate for a setup that repeatedly dies.

Selected AFK Meta minions; source-reported values
CompanionBase capacityReported combat effectPotential reason to compare
Brown Horse20+5% Move SpeedEarly travel/hauling baseline
Bloodmoon Werewolf25+30% Attack Speed for 5 s, 10 s cooldown; Life On Hit +10%Attack frequency and sustain
Ancient Oak Treant30Heal 20% Max Health, 12 s cooldown; +10% Max HealthSurvival before long unattended loops
Raptor35+30% Damage Over Time; +3% Crit Chance; +25% Crit DamageDamage-over-time or critical setup
Dark Elf Mage25+50% Mana; +30% Fire DamageMana/fire comparison
Ogre30+30% Damage to Stunned; 20% less Physical damageStun/physical survival comparison
Goblin Giant25Club Smash, 8 s cooldown; +40% Gold from enemiesGold goal with its combat ability
Lord of the Crimson Vale30Earth Spikes, 12 s cooldown; +30% Damage to VulnerableVulnerable-focused comparison

Official 1.0.0h independently increased Lord of the Crimson Vale’s carriage capacity from 25 to 30. That named update supports why an older table can be wrong without showing every other entry changed. Wikily’s cart formula adds learned Carriage Capacity to the active minion’s base, with up to +12 from the full set and a reported 47 slot ceiling. Compare the active total in your own summary rather than counting an unlocked but unequipped companion’s capacity.

Use regions and encounter scope to pursue an unlock

The references locate Bloodmoon Werewolf and Raptor in Kings Woods, Ancient Oak Treant in Kings Woods South, Dark Elf Mage in Spire Hill Crypt, Ogre in Spire Hill Crypt Lower, and Goblin Giant/Lord of the Crimson Vale in The Crimson Vale. The official achievement descriptions retained in the boss guide use Northhill Crypt for the mage/ogre area, while the newer map references use Spire Hill names. Match the named encounter and region context instead of assuming a different spelling is a second unrelated boss.

Wikily’s Legendary Reins entry gives 0.06% per cleared encounter for Raptor and Dark Elf Mage, and 0.04% for Bloodmoon Werewolf, Ancient Oak Treant and Ogre. It explicitly frames these as offline character rules and says the server decides online loot. Those small probabilities are not a promise after a fixed number of runs; repeated failure to obtain one is not enough to prove a filter bug. The entry also lists Blue Mammoth sold by Ingrid in City of Veldak for 500,000 gold and Flying Fish King from named fishing spots, so enemy farming is not the only source category.

For a lower-rarity example, Wikily lists Barrens Crocodile at 0.25% per cleared encounter, 25 capacity and +20% Damage to Injured. Its page says Reins do not drop in Mythic Rift and online loot is planned by the server. Treat those as reference boundaries for selecting a farming lead, not evidence of a verified online drop rate. The official boss-region guide helps identify encounter locations without promising the Rein as a kill reward.

Handle a new Rein without losing the decision

Identify the exact item

Read its rarity, companion name and tradable property. Do not infer market eligibility from a color or from another Rein.

Inspect your unlocked roster

Separate a first unlock from a duplicate. Compare the prospective capacity and effect with the active companion.

Choose unlock or retention

Use it only when you intend to consume the item for the roster. Retain potential trade stock or unresolved first unlocks until the decision is clear.

Read the confirmation

Wikily says a tradable Rein asks before use because it is consumed. A confirmation is a chance to reconsider, not an automatic value assessment.

Recheck the farming policy

After changing minions, inspect total capacity and per-character carriage settings. Start with a short stable loop before leaving it unattended.

Locking and storage are useful organizational safeguards, but the reviewed sources do not prove every Rein interaction with every automation rule. Keep valuable objects away from bulk disposal stock and read manual confirmations. If an item was accidentally sold to an NPC, check Buyback immediately; the last-eight-sale buffer does not document recovery of consumed or destroyed Reins.

Minion and duplicate questions

Q: Does automatic Legendary Rein pickup mean I own the minion?

No. The developer exception is collection. Wikily describes using a Rein as a separate consuming unlock action.

Q: Is every Rein tradable?

No. The reviewed Barrens Crocodile entry is explicitly not tradable. Check each specific item.

Q: Is 35 capacity always better than 25?

It is more hauling room in the reference, but companion abilities/passives differ. Choose a sustainable loop before maximizing capacity.

Q: Why does an old guide say to skip duplicate Legendary Reins?

ApolloTrail is scoped through h. Official 1.0.0i says Legendary Reins are always picked up regardless of filters.

Q: Do the listed Rein probabilities apply online?

Wikily explicitly limits its drop-rule table to offline characters and server-decided online loot. Current online rates are unverified here.

Q: Can I recover a Rein after using it?

The reviewed entry says use consumes it. NPC Buyback is for sales, not an unlock undo.

Find the encounter route with Boss Region Reference, then compare its skill effect before spending time on duplicates.
